Yrjö Närhinen, the new Chairman of the Finnish Federation of the Brewing and Soft Drinks Industry: VAT reduction on restaurant meals welcome
Yrjö Närhinen, Managing
Director of Hartwall Ltd, was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Finnish Federation of the Brewing and Soft Drinks Industry
at a Board meeting held on 13 January 2009.
The Federation’s new chairman, Yrjö Närhinen, is
pleased with the promising trends in Finnish beer culture.
“Over the past few years, members of the Federation of the Brewing and Soft Drinks Industry have
done a lot to diversify the range of beers available in Finland and to raise
the profile of beer as an ideal, top-quality beverage to accompany food, ” he
says.
Närhinen warmly
welcomes the VAT reduction on restaurant services that is under negotiations within the European
Union.
“Although the reduction would not be targeted
directly at alcoholic drinks, reducing VAT on restaurant services from 22 to 12
per cent would definitely support our beer culture, too. Beer culture is
constantly evolving, particularly in restaurants, in the company of good food
and friends,” he adds.
Former Chairman Mikael
Aro will be leaving the Federation’s Board. Aro, who is Senior Vice
President – Nordic of the Carlsberg Group (Oy Sinebrychoff Ab’s parent
company), held the position from January 2007.
The other members of the Board of the Federation of the Brewing and Soft Drinks Industry for 2009
are: Lasse Aho, Managing
Director of Olvi plc, Pekka Tiainen,
CEO of Oy Sinebrychoff Ab, and Matti
Heikkilä, Managing Director of Nokian Panimo Oy.
