Federation of the Brewing and soft drinks industry donates €10,000 and soft drinks to children's care unit in Tampere

The Federation of the Brewing and Soft Drinks Industry has donated €10,000 to Tampere University Hospital's children's care unit for equipment purchases, in addition to soft drinks for patients, parents and staff during the Christmas season.

The donation was accepted last Friday by Chief Physician Matti Salo, who said that the money will be used to purchase a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine for neonatal intensive care. "The machine will help newborns breathe and assist undeveloped lungs. The amount of the donation is significant," he added.

The children's care unit also received soft drinks, which will be divided among its six wards. The soft drinks will provide refreshments for patients, visiting parents and hospital staff during the holiday season.

Tampere University Hospital's children's care unit celebrated its 40th anniversary last year and is the second largest unit of its kind in Finland. It takes care of young patients requiring special care in the Kanta-Häme, Päijät-Häme, Etelä-Pohjanmaa and Vaasa regions. It also trains health-care professionals and conducts research.

The brewing and soft drinks industry has donated beverages to hospitals since 1993. The Christmas donation has included money for equipment purchases since 2000. The goal is to brighten up the Christmas season and ensure longer-term benefits. Last year's donation went to the Hospital for Children and Adolescents in Helsinki.
